Computer Scientist Killed in Santo Spirito, Investigations Closed: "Crime with Cruelty"

Voluntary homicide with the aggravating circumstance of cruelty: this is the crime charged to 42-year-old Antonio Rizzi for the death of 63-year-old Francesco Dogna, the computer scientist from Bari whose lifeless body was found on the morning of January 8 in a pool of blood in his home in Santo Spirito. The Bari Public Prosecutor's Office has closed the investigation into the crime, confessed by the suspect, who has been in prison for several days after the murder.
The investigations of the Carabinieri, coordinated by the prosecutor Carla Spagnuolo, have crystallized the responsibilities of the 42-year-old, although they have not found a real motive for the crime. The killer explained to the magistrates that he had gone to Dogna's house to consume drugs together, as they had done occasionally for about ten years (they had met when Rizzi cleaned the offices of the Region where the victim worked), that he had then reacted to a threat - after the victim refused to give him more crack - and that he had struck so as not to be hit, fleeing into the night out of fear. The forensic medical examination on the victim, however, ruled out that the 63-year-old had taken drugs...
